Volume Lashes…..Premade vs. Handmade

Lashing is an exceptional form of art! There's so many ways to create different lash looks using different lashes. The "pro" way of making volume fans are called handmade lash fans. The lashes are pulled off the strip in groups of two to up to 10 lashes, carefully separated and arranged, dipped into adhesive, and then wrapped to the client’s natural lash. Originally the term Russian volume referred to creating symmetrical, beautiful fans that can take months (sometimes years) of practice and tons of patience and skill to master. Lashes have definitely evolved since then and many lash artists, including myself, have converted to using the lightest lashes focusing less on the perfect symmetry creating lash looks that are more natural and wispy. Handmade fans tend to have better retention because of the wrap method.

For the beginner lash artist or anyone struggling with volume lashes distributors have created a "short cut" making volume lash looks easier to obtain. Pre-made volume fans are either bonded at the base by a tiny amount of adhesive, or are heat-bonded. The finished product comes inside a tray, on a sticky strip, similar to individual lash extensions. You can successfully use premade volume fans to save time and develop your technique as a volume lasher. Heat bonded premade fans make it easier for you to control the amount of adhesive you use. The technique is very similar to applying classic lashes.

Make sure to weigh your options when it comes to choosing what kind of lash look you want created and also the difference between both techniques.
